Arithmatical - Area

DIRECTIONS : Problems based on Area.
1. A rectangular parking space is marked out by painting three of its sides. If the length of the unpainted side is
9 feet, and the sum of the lengths of the painted sides is 37 feet, then what is the area of the parking space in square feet?
  A.  46
  B.  81
  C.  126
  D.  252 litres
Solution
Clearly,we have l=9 and l+2b=37
Area= (l x b)
=(9 x 14) sq.ft
= 126 sq.ft.
2. The length of a rectangulat plot is 20 metres more than its breadth. If the cost of fencing the plot @ Rs. 26.50 per metre is Rs. 5300, what is the length of the plot in metres?
  A.  40
  B.  50
  C.  200
  D.  120
Solution
Let breadth = x metres
Then, length = (x + 20)metres.
Perimeter = (5300 / 26.50) m
= 200m

3. The breadth of a rectangular field is 60% of its length. If the perimeter of the field is 800 m.What is the area of the field?
  A.  18750 sq.m
  B.  37500 sq.m
  C.  40000 sq.m
  D.  48000 sq.m
Solution
So length =250 m; breadth=150m
Area = (250 x 150)m²
= 37500 m²
4. The length of a rectangualr hll is 5m more than its breadth. The area of the hall is 750 m. The length of the hall is
  A.  15 m
  B.  22.5 m
  C.  25 m
  D.  30 m
Solution
Let the length = xmetres.
Then length = (x +5)metres.
Then,x(x +5)= 750
= x² + 5x - 750= 0
(x+30)(x-25)= 0
x=25.
