19. A person was asked to state his age in years. His reply was, “Take my age three years hence, multiply it by 3 and then subtract three times my age three years ago and you will know how old I am.” What was the age of the person?

Solution
Let the present ages of the person be x years.
Then3(x-3)-3(x-3)
‹=› x= (3x+9)-(3x-9)
x=18.
20. Q is as much younger than R as he is older than T. If the sum of the ages of R and T is 50 years, what is definitely the difference between R and Q's age ?
  A.  1 year
  B.  2 year
  C.  25 year
  D.  Data inadequate
Solution
R - Q = R - T Q = T.
Also,R + T = 50
‹=› R + Q = 50.
So, (R - Q) cannot be determined.

21. The sum of the ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years. What is the age of the youngest child ?
  A.  4 years
  B.  8 years
  C.  10 years
  D.  12 years
Solution
Let the ages of the children be x,(x+3),(x+6),(x+9) and (x+12) years.
Then,x+(x+3)+(x+6)+(x+9)+(x+12)=50
5x=20
x=4.
Age of the youngest child=4 years.
